Worship
at Woodland
Our
worship at Woodland is best described as “blended.”
We follow a traditional liturgy, but incorporate
both traditional and more contemporary styles of
prayers, songs, readings, and other elements of
worship, so that our worship experience can be fresh
(not repetitive), relevant (not stuffy), and genuine
(not just going through the motions).
For example, in one service you might find a
traditional hymn, like “Amazing Grace,” as well as
the more recent “Lord, I Lift Your Name on High.”
There may be a Call to Worship written by John
Wesley and a congregational prayer written by Maya
Angelou. The prelude may be a banjo instrumental,
liturgical dance, or classical organ piece. The
Scripture may be read from the New International
Version or The Message. Sermons are Bible
based, but do not follow the lectionary.
Children’s Worship
Following our Children’s Moments during worship,
children ages 3 to 7 are invited to leave the
Sanctuary for Children’s Worship, a time where they
can worship God through music, stories, crafts, and
other activities that are meaningful for their age.
Children’s worship contains the same components as
the Sanctuary service: praise and thanksgiving,
prayer, hearing God’s Word, and response.
Holy Communion Holy Communion is celebrated six times during the year.
Communion is most often served “at table” – at the altar rail –
using small cups for the juice. However, it is also served on
occasion by intinction, in which the bread is dipped in a common
cup.

and the worship of others.
